Vintage Power Wagons came through, or I should say Nitro Gears came through with the batch of 4.89 gears for the M37 community. Every few years they get a list going and order them, why you say? Well you can go from a fast paced ~47MPH to a blistering 55-60ish MPH. I may not swap them until the winter, an old guy up in Santa Rosa used to own a business that did work on these and he said he would swap them for me. If he can do it in a weekend I may do it sooner. He said he would want a couple days.

You need to do a nice complete review post on the Wagon when the time comes! :)

Yeah, I am keeping all the pics in a file. I also have pics from the previous owner and what it was like when they got it from MA Fire. It should be pretty cool once it’s all green again . We have been through everything but w e haven’t looked at the mystery heater yet, these didn’t have a heater unless it was an arctic package and then it was mounted on the left front fender. We have no idea what this heater is but it looks old. I may try and get it out and identify it and see if it can work or be rebuilt. I guess an old Jeep heater could go there if it can’t.

Jesus, what gears does it have now if 4.89s are gonna make it longer legged?

My name isn’t Jesus :P 583s. The trucks were meant to be loaded full of ammo and drive on dirt roads in Korea. I believe they started designing these at the end of WWII to replace the previous trucks with no doors at all. Some people just change the axles to later danas and swap engines, but then it isn’t like the real truck. I’m putting a power steering kit a guy makes for them in it just to be able to get around in modern parking lots etc... Replaces the OEM steering box location.

Good god. Awesome, but yeah that would get tiresome trying to drive on actual roads.

Awesome, that’ll make a big difference too.

2nd isn’t synched though so I have to practice double clutching from 3rd down to 2nd. 2nd up is synched, 1st is granny and you don’t use it unless climbing something or yanking a tree out of the ground.

My low is 1.96:1, after military use they became known as the world’s fastest tractor in fire services and in the Army Corps of Engineers.

I know there was one bearing that is $50, some others are $32, I can’t remember the exact one. The guy I will have do it actually has all that stuff from his business. With military trucks you can often get a new old stock part. My new tranny top is from the 60's I think, greased and wrapped in wax paper!

Interestingly the overall gearing for 1st in the Saab is the same as that in a series II Land Rover. 4mph per 1000rpm, it’s the only car I have that needs to go up the driveway in 2nd because the engine is roaring at 15mph. Subaru 360 was about the same, 12-15mph tops in 1st.
